Shore Shot Art Show With John Morris @ Beacon Gallery Stone Harbor, NJ May 9th opening 5pm - 7pm Open to the public

The Raw & Refined Show

SICWERKSTUDIO, Beacon Gallery, and The Princeton is delighted to announce Raw & Refined, Art @ The Jersey Shore (July 10th 2pm-9pm Avalon, NJ). Marking a shift in methodology, Tara Good revisits earlier bodies of work armed with a deeper understanding of the materials she employs and how they interact, as well as new insights informed by recent life experiences. She re-interrogates these materials and subject matters, exploring how past events have transformed both her and her artistic process. Occupying the Rock Room, the exhibition presents new works from her signature mica painting series, highlighting her fluid movement between figuration and abstraction. There will be an opening reception on Wednesday, June 10, 2-9 pm. The artist will be present.

At its core, the exhibition represents a departure from previous presentations which drew inspiration from external experiences and shifts towards a more inward-looking examination of self, process, and materiality. Good’s oil & wax paintings combine unconventional industrial materials such as mica, German glass, and phosphorescence powders (created by English artist Stewart Semple) with traditional pigments and encaustic/cold wax painting techniques. Transitioning from the elaborate mica abstracts of previous works in this series, Good utilizes her past contractor’s license to capture a certain time & place. Streamlining this process has allowed for a peaceful, though more nuanced, intuitive approach. This change reflects a newfound confidence in her artistic vision, prompting her to question the necessity of each element within the composition. Good also embraces a more vibrant palette inspired by her time in Sea Isle City, NJ.

As Good revisits her Living Painting series, she finds herself more personally connected to the imagery, seeing her reflection in carrying the burden of life’s experiences within the works. Despite the meticulous and exacting creative process – using hundreds, even thousands, of years old recipes to “paint” the compositions – these new figurative works incorporate abstract elements, embracing a sense of freedom in her approach to representational imagery. Good’s encaustic/cold wax series, on view in the Rock Room, were initially begun as a daily meditative practice during the pandemic to document the passage of time. The works are constructed in various materials with oil paint to accentuate the collective familiarity of our memories from the area. As with all of Good’s oeuvre, material regeneration is a prevalent connection within her work. Her ability to elevate industrial elements into fine art materials is consistent throughout the exhibition, serving as a linear narrative that underscores her dedication to pushing boundaries and exploring the breadth of her creativity.

Tara Good lives and has SICWERSTUDIO in Sea Isle City, NJ. Her work has been the subject of group exhibitions at The Telfair Museum in Savannah, Georgia, The United States Capitol Washington, D.C.. and solo shows in over 10 galleries from Jacksonville, Florida to Philadelphia, PA. Good donates works to many charities, has had her work featured in movies, television, and is on public display at many local, family owned, businesses. She continues to be challenged with many health issues, from AML (leukemia) to RMS (multiple sclerosis) and is raising a 5th generation daughter (with autism) on the barrier island with her. www.newsite.sitedrafted.com
